4.1.5- The potential impacts of environmental threats
As studied previously, Australia's environment has been shaped over time by its isolation, erratic climate and geological stability. These factors have created a unique and diverse environment that is home to approximately 10% of the world's biodiversity. Our outdoor environments and the species that live in them have evolved and adapted to cope with the unique circumstances and conditions found here- this creates a diverse environment, but also one that is fragile and vulnerable to change.
Any modifications to the environment, whether it be using older style farming practices, introducing new species, or changes to the climate, all pose a serious threat to native flora and fauna and to society (as we humans rely on the productivity of the land).
This section focuses on some of the most significant threats, their causes and the impacts they can have on society and the outdoor environment.
