While we have looked at how recreational and land managers understandings of outdoor environments is affected by their motivations for their individual interactions, and how scientific understandings of the environment have led to some of the greatest advancements society has made, this section considers a variety of other points of understanding.
These continue and build upon the idea that there is always a relationship between who we are and what we understand about the environments we interact with. Here we will consider a range of artistic, Indigenous Australian and historical understandings of specific outdoor environments.
