The quote opposite should help to highlight just how central and essential a healthy and sustainable outdoor environment is integral to a high quality life. Outdoor environments provide us with the necessities of life: clean air, food and water, not to mention places for recreation and inspiration.
It is important to monitor the health of outdoor environments in order to identify any damaging impacts that they be facing and immediately take action when required. Environments consist of a whole range of complex interactions which can be difficult to measure.
